Sunday Medals

Sunday Medals

We understand that some members struggle to compete in our Monthly Medal competitions because Saturday is typically “changeover day”. So this year we have rescheduled the monthly medals to alternate between Saturday and Sunday. April’s Medal, the opening round of the Club Championship, will take place this Saturday (14th) – but the May, July and September Medals will take place on a Sunday.

See the Fixture List for full details.

The Annual General Meeting of the Craignure Golf Club will take place at:
The Isle of Mull Hotel
on Monday 29th January 2018 at 7:30pm.

Water and Electricity

Water and Electricity

Thanks to the very generous support of TSL, The Scottish Hydro-Electric Community Trust and The Waterfall Fund we expect work to commence shortly on the installation of mains water and electricity to the Club House in Craignure.

The work will cause disruption in the car park area and we ask members and visitors to bear with us whilst these connections are undertaken.

Drainage Improvements

Drainage Improvements

As part of our ongoing improvement program many of our drainage ditches around the course have been cleared this week, and water is now flowing freely again. Most notably this includes the ditches running across the 1st/6th fairway, and alongside the 7th/9th. This is an important step towards making the course more attractive to members and visitors alike.

The groundworks alongside the ditches should be treated as “Ground Under Repair” temporarily in order to allow those areas to recover.

Many thanks to Ian (TSL) for his sterling efforts with the digger.

GolfPad

GolfPad

Further to my previous note about SkyCaddie, I wanted to add that there are a few alternatives for those who don’t own a SkyCaddie device, or would rather not pay an annual license fee for the app.

One of these is GolfPadGPS. It is a free app for either iPhone or Android, and I have used it with some success at my previous club in Northampton. I was disappointed to discover that Craignure was not included in its list of courses – and so I sat down at my computer screen last week and mapped the course myself! This turned out to be a fairly simple process, and whilst maybe not quite as accurate as actually walking the course, I think it is good enough for most purposes. My handiwork was approved and appeared in the app 2 days later.

I tried the system out on Friday morning. It is necessary to have a mobile data signal in order to start your round, but this doesn’t seem to be a big issue any more at Craignure. Once you get going, I believe that a GPS signal only is sufficient.

The system will give you a yardage to the centre, front, and back of the green. This itself is a great help with club selection, particularly for someone like me who is still learning his way around. In addition you can register the location of each and every shot, optionally with details of the club used – and this information is recorded and can be saved at the end of the round. Penalty strokes (I had plenty) and putts (ditto) can also be recorded.

Once the data is saved it can then be viewed by logging in via the website. By way of example, this is how I played the 4th hole on Friday morning (obviously I picked this hole because it went fairly well – aside from the putting).

Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.
Barry.

SkyCaddie

SkyCaddie

The course has recently been mapped by Steve Winstone from SkyCaddie. This means that anyone that owns a SkyCaddie watch or handheld GPS device will be able to use it to gain accurate information on yardages and course layout during your round. SkyCaddie emphasise that because they take the time to walk and map the course with a member (in this case club captain Alex Cowe), then the result is far more accurate than simply relying upon a satellite image.

Craignure GC will be available on your SkyCaddie device within the next couple of months.

100 Club Draw 2017

100 Club Draw 2017

Delayed 100 Club Draw 4th April 2017

For the first time in several years all 100 tickets were sold and the prizes were as follows:

1st £500 Ishbel Robbie
2nd £50 Ian and Elizabeth Ferguson
3rd £25 Peter Boyle jnr.
4th £25 Stephen Daly

The 100 Club has realised a surplus for the golf Club of £600 which will be earmarked for capital projects including, hopefully, connection to the mains water supply.

At the Annual General Meeting changes were made to the rules for the draw and the new rules can be downloaded here: 100 Club Rules.

The Committee would like to thank everyone who bought tickets and hope they will support us again with this year’s ticket sales.
